MINIGASTRIC BYPASS (OAGB)
Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery (MGB)—also known as One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB)
Service Description
Mini Gastric Bypass (MGB / OAGB) — is a simplified alternative to the traditional Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) A Simplified, Effective Approach to Weight Loss Surgery 🔍 What is it? Mini Gastric Bypass involves creating a long, narrow gastric pouch and connecting it directly to a loop of the small intestine, bypassing approximately 150–200 cm of bowel. Unlike the RYGB, which uses two anastomoses (surgical connections), the MGB uses only one, which simplifies the procedure. ✅ Advantages - Shorter operating time and technically simpler than RYGB - Comparable or greater weight loss than traditional bypass - Effective in resolving type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome - Lower risk of internal hernias due to single anastomosis - Can be reversed or converted if necessary ⚠️ Considerations & Risks - Bile reflux may occur in some patients due to the loop configuration - Risk of nutritional deficiencies due to malabsorption - Lifelong vitamin and mineral supplementation required - Less commonly performed in the U.S., more popular in Europe and Asia 💡 Ideal Candidates - BMI ≥ 40 or ≥ 35 with comorbidities - Patients seeking a shorter surgery or those with higher operative risk - Patients needing revision surgery after failed restrictive procedures (like VSG)
